Spatters of rain hit against the overhead tarp intermittently as if threatening to let loose even worse weather at a moment's notice. Wilfred gripped his coffee mug tighter, letting the warmth seep into his hands. He glanced upward again, sighing at the storm clouds blocking out most of the night sky. Visibility was poor enough that he was tempted to pack up and go back inside for the night. But he hated to miss his star watching, even if he had to deal with uncooperative weather to do it. Especially now that he had an even greater purpose behind these nightly vigils.

Wait. What was that object moving through a gap in the clouds? He snatched up his telescope and pointed it skyward, adjusting the focus as he pressed his eye to the lens. There! He could see it now. It was... only a passing airplane. Sighing, Wilfred leaned back in his chair. No matter, he told himself. He would keep an eye out each night anyway, just in case. He would keep looking toward the sky on behalf of the brave woman who no longer remembered to do it herself. He would keep an eye out for his Donna.
